Baby Bites writes an article on the lily pad!

This afternoon I was rapt to discover that the awesome Baby Bites team have written an article on my lily pads. Calling them"handmade heaven", we're also on the front page of their very cool website/e-newsletter page under the "what's hot right now" section! You can read their positive, supportive review by clicking the picture beside this post. Thanks so much Jodi and team, we're so proud!

Auckland Art and Craft Fair, July 24th, Auckland Art Gallery

The first Auckland Art and Craft Fair is 4 weeks away, on Saturday 24th July, and Topography will be there!

How is this for a great intro?
'Greta Bertenshaw is the lovely lady behind designer children's label, Topography. Her cute t-shirts are all hand appliqu├ęd with typography based designs and simple silhouettes in the most gorgeous fabrics. Topography is based in Auckland and is relatively new — we just think they're too cute!'

Take a look at the Fair blog for more information on the wide range of talent that will be on show.

Retail ready...busy, busy.

This week has been crazy busy for me here at lily pad designs. I've been stockpiling a whole raft of goodies for my first 'offline' retailer - (we used to call them 'brick and mortar' retailers - is that term still used?). As of next week the gorgeous boutique Newmarket retailer Bay Bee Cino will be stocking my 'lily pad' harness liners and my 'lily pinboard' range. I'm working on a colourful display area in conjunction with the lovely baby manchester company Holly Chic - the pinboard fabrics have been chosen to match the Holly Chic bedding. They are sublime! Let me know what you think. And you can still buy online from Holly Chic.

Oh no...it was for her glory box

This morning I am so annoyed at myself. I have lost my sling. I clicked on the way to kindy this morning that last night I left it on the roof of the car when I got Lori out...then later last night drove off to bookclub without checking in the dark. I'm devastated, to be fair. Lori LOVES her sling and together we've been everywhere together with her on my hip...kindy drop offs for her sister, playdates at the park, quick trips to the post office and the mall. It's actually an item of sentimental value too - when she was born eight months ago it was first creation (after many years of learning to sew as I go) that got people telling me to start my own label. People always admire it and how smiley and happy she is in it. Luckily for me, I've now got a whole stock of beautiful fabrics to make another, now that I've started lily pad designs. But there will never be another one that was destined for her glory box...

PS - I don't make slings to sell at markets/retail...I believe they should be made to measure for safety reasons...but contact me if you're interested in a tailor-made one :)

Devonport Craft Market, Sunday 4th July

We are looking forward to our first spot at the Devonport Craft Market next week, 10am - 2pm at the Devonport Community House.

Most of the people we spoke to at Crafternoon Tea on the weekend were looking for gifts, and we have lots of great gift ideas... lily pad liners and baby t-shirts for new parents, pinboards and aprons for kids.

The aprons are made up of our favourite fabrics and are really gorgeous, we have quite a selection to choose from now! So come and see them in person and say hi, we would love to see you.

The Devonport Craft Market blog has all the details and a list of all the talented sellers that will be there.

A Good Vintage

My sewing machine was my grandmother's and I suspect it is older than me... I had a scare with it this week when it would only sew straight lines and not zigzags, a huge problem for applique!

We figured out the problem but it prompted me to download a manual for it, something I have been meaning to do for a while. It was a lovely surprise to see the manual cover is made up of applique letters like the t-shirts I sell.

Inspired by this blast from the past and the lovely vintage items we saw on the weekend, I tackled our local op shops today. With baby in tow I couldn't have a proper dig, but I still found some treasures for my big girl and some remnants of fabric I think I will be able to find projects for - four pieces came to $2.20!

Crafternoon Tea: wow, the talent!

Join us for a spot of Crafternoon Tea Today's Crafternoon Tea in Kingsland was gorgeous. So 'must-have', so very collectable- if you missed it, be jealous. I bought several obviously well-kept and cherished patterns, including a set of Butterick patterns for Barbie clothes, and a fantastic 'A' glass/resin name necklace - what a treat. Overall, our stall was well received and we were really one of only two or three 'baby' orientated stalls there. As WAHMs (working from home mums) needing to look at all things beautiful and inspiring, we loved the variety of the other stalls. Our favourite picks were: A Little Vintage; Skipapple; Estella Rose; and Cotton Kiwi. Please visit their websites and blogs, see below:

Here's a few piccies of our stall:

Crafternoon Tea Lily Pinnies ready to go!

Our first lot of aprons for sale have just finished being ironed this morning...I don't know how I'll part with them to sell them at the market. My daughter's absolute favourite one is also mine - the yellow with birds and flowers. So divine! Hope all the mums and dads at Crafternoon Tea this weekend love having their kids bake and cook as much as we do. Is your child the next Donna Hay or Gordon Ramsay?

More aprons...

Inspired by our Lily Pinnies for children, I have been experimenting with some bigger ones - we thought having our logos would be fun for the markets, and the cupcake is for my crafty sister who not only makes gorgeous cards, but is this week starting a cake-decorating course at Milly's. I'm so pleased with them I will be looking into sourcing some more...

New fabric shipment has arrived!

Our new fabric shipment from the US arrived today! You'll see there's a definite theme emerging of greens, oranges and pinks coming through - all awesome autumn and winter colours to brighten your day. The theme has come mainly from people requesting green and orange pram liners (lily pads) to match the new craze of brightly coloured prams, and requests for new pinks and purples on t-shirts (topography). You'll see our usual designers in here - Amy Butler, Patrica Bravo, Art Journal....
